Start with your study objective
Discuss your education, Japanese learning history, preferred course and intended intake before selecting a school. Compare the teaching programme, location, total cost and progression options. Admission criteria belong to the receiving institution; there is no single school checklist that fits every applicant.
- Bring your academic history and explain any study or employment gaps honestly.
- Check the language evidence and interviews requested by each school.
- Choose an intake only after checking the school deadline and your document readiness.
Understand the application stages
School admission, a Certificate of Eligibility application and a visa application are separate stages. For the usual COE-based student route, the receiving school commonly coordinates the Japan-side COE submission. After the relevant documents are available, follow the visa submission instructions for your place of residence.
- Prepare the school application and supporting records.
- Respond to school or COE follow-up questions using genuine evidence.
- Check the current embassy or authorised submission channel before applying for the visa.
Prepare Japanese for real conversations
Language learning is useful beyond an application. Practise introducing yourself, describing your study plan, asking questions and understanding classroom instructions. Soyogi offers Japanese courses from beginner level; discuss the appropriate course with the team rather than assuming that one exam level guarantees admission or a visa.
- Use your actual education and career plans in interview practice.
- Keep attendance records and certificates available where requested.
- Build a study schedule that continues while documents are being prepared.
Make a realistic funding plan
List tuition, accommodation, living expenses and initial travel costs before committing to an intake. Identify who will pay each cost and whether their records support the plan. Ask the school for its specific financial evidence requirements; do not rely on a universal bank-balance figure advertised online.
- Compare written school quotations and their refund terms.
- Keep school charges separate from counselling or assistance charges.
- Avoid relying on a future part-time job to meet an immediate funding shortfall.
Questions About Japan Student Visa
Does a COE guarantee my student visa?
No. A COE and a visa are different decisions. Japanese authorities decide whether to issue the visa and permit entry; an institute cannot guarantee either outcome.
Do I need to pass JLPT N5 first?
Check the selected school and application route. Japanese learning evidence and admission requirements vary. A particular JLPT level is not a universal visa-approval guarantee.
Can I discuss my profile before choosing a school?
Yes. Contact Soyogi with your education, Japanese level, preferred intake and budget so the discussion can focus on your circumstances.
